Answer
NO! The extra weight of the battery & motor will just make it more difficult to learn balance. For the price of just one electric assist bicycle - you could buy three to four really good pedal bicycles.

$2,099.99 or $549.99? Your choice. I'd take the $550 bike. It'll last longer too.

What is you opinion on electric assist bikes, Trek has one called the Ride Plus?

I was wondering if the electric motor is speed limited to 15-20 mph with pedal power, should one pedal at a higher rate of speed does the system shut off or are you wasting battery life? Another words, is this system good for all speeds, or slow speeds. I wondering if it is a limiting factor, ultimately.

Answer
From what I see you have to pedal to move. It has 3 levels of assistance and they claim you can go as hard as you want.
