Mountain Bikes
Comfort & Cruisers
Road Bikes
Electric Bikes
Tandem Bikes

Im looking for a bike that i can just ride to and from school and go around town on which would be best and whats the difference between these bikes?

Answer
Mountain bikes are designed for off road trails. Many people buy mountain bikes & ride them strictly on the streets - dumb. Road bikes are designed for strictly the streets, designed to go fast, but usually not very comfortable. Electric bikes are designed for people that need a little extra help getting uphill. Tandem bikes are a bicycle built for two. Fun, but takes some practice before the 2 riders get into sync.

A cruiser is different than a comfort bike. It usually has but one gear, sometimes 3. Often called beach cruisers because that's where they originated...on the boardwalk of beaches to ride on flat land - not needing any gears.

Comfort & Hybrid bikes are similar. The main difference being a comfort bike usually has the traditional 26" tires. Hybrids have taller & thinner 700C tires that roll easier & go a bit faster. Hybrid bikes have become very popular because they are versatile. You sit in a comfortable upright position, have many gears to handle hills, yet can go slightly off road on trails of packed earth or finely crushed gravel/stone. With a hybrid, you're basically getting a combination of a road bike, a mountain bike & a comfort bike. The best of all three. That's what I ride & recommend for most people looking for an all around good bike.

How much does it cost to make a bike electronic?

slipknot01

I got a touring bike but I live on dirt roads and dirt roads make me really tired. Im looking to make my bike electric so I wont get tired on the dirt roads then pedal the rest of the way on paved roads. How much does the battery cost and the electric motor cost? Im only gonna use it for 4 miles on my dirt roads then the rest of the way I pedal.

Answer
before you try to make your bike electric (which I agree is probably prohibitively expensive), there are a few things that you can do to make your ride on dirt roads easier. First, are you using your lowest (easiest to pedal) gears, or are you using a high (difficult to pedal) gear? If it is the latter, start using your lowest gears. If you are using your lowest gears and it is still wearing you out too badly, go to your local bike shop and have your gearing changed so you have lower gears. With the right gearing, an electric bike should be unnecessary. Most bikes come with gearing that is too high anyway. You may also want to consider larger tires, if the reason you are tired out is from getting beaten up by an uncomfortable bike.

Can I make a gokart using motorized bike wheels?

best electric bike conversion kit image
Q. More specifically can I build a go cart usin motorized bike wills from a conversion kit to make any bike an electric bike.

Answer
Yes you can. However yor will have a quadracycle. The smallest hub motors you can get for a bike are 16 inch.

Check with your state dmv for regs on motorized biks. Some will consider an electric bike a moped and require its registration there are also speed and power limits that must not be exceeded in order to be legal. Also a four wheeled cycle can be classified differently and require a registration to be allowed on the road where as a two of three wheeled one doesn't. a quadracycle can be treated like a car for the purpose of registration requiring insurance. Basically the Dmv is discouraging the use of quadracycles because they are wide slow moving vehicles that can't get out of the way of automotive .
traffic.

In Mass a narrow two wheeled vehicle like a bike is legal to operate on the road while a wide segway is not.

How do you turn a bicycle into a electric powered bike without buying a conversion kit?

For the same bicycle product/concept there are many production phases to be accomplished until a market product get alife. During these phases different prototypes are built if required.

Answer
There can be a lot of difference. A working prototype is often cobbled together by a mechanic. A market prototype is more refined , and is an element in test marketing.
I have had experience with building prototype bicycles, and I have a few photos to share:

This is Type 3, which has a fairing made of Kevlar (Dupont trademark aramid fiber) built in 1987:
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q119/hotbike/00000008-1.jpg

After testing it on people, other suggestions were taken into consideration. The next photo is of the Type 9, built in 1993, and made of fiberglass. The fairing is smaller because testing the larger fairing in Florida revealed that the riders got to hot, it blocked off air. Also, the newer fairing has a storage compartment big enough for 12 x 12ounce beverage cans. And the new design has the fairing mounted to the frame, not the handlebars, so it is much more stable. This bike cost $270.00 to build and sold (Dutch Auction) for $1,200.00.
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q119/hotbike/00000023-1.jpg

This photo is of the Type 7, which I did not sell. The fairing was designed by the same women who designed the Type 9:
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q119/hotbike/photo003.jpg

I skipped using the number eight, because , like a game of pool, I want the eightball to be last.

Since building these bikes , there has been a lot of electric bikes going into production in China, some 16 million per year. So I would like to cut my losses by bringing in bikes from China. Maybe I will continue to build my own on a one-time, custom basis, but the consumer is only concerned about cost.

Can the pedaling energy charge the battery of an electric bike?

Drowzzy

Can the mechanical energy of pedaling be stored as electrical energy to be utilized later to run the bicycle automatically? I'm not talking about pure electric bikes that need regular charging, and not even about those that you pedal for a while as the bike stands still and then run it on electric power. I mean can you ride a bike and store the mechanical energy simultaneously? Will it be efficient? If so, then are such e-bikes available in the market, and what are they called so that I may Google for them?

Here's the scenario: I need a bicycle for regular commute, may be even for covering long distances. It's not feasible for a layman to pedal continuously for more than 5 to 10 miles. So I'm looking for a bike that you pedal for sometime, and when you're exhausted, you simply flick a button to make it run on electrical power which has been converted and stored from the mechanical energy of pedaling the bike; and then pedal again and auto-ride again and so forth. Will something like that be technically efficient, since you're moving the bike while pedaling as well as storing your spare energy?

Hope I haven't confused you. Thanks :)

Answer
There is already such a motor on the market. The name escapes me right now but it is a hub built into the rear wheel and it costs about $2000... not the Erbike hub motor... I think it is Electricrider or something like that.

To your request, yes, it is possible and a project I am working on right now. No, I can't and won't divulge details but CAN tell you that you'll see it relatively soon and it WILL be expensive- more expensive than a small motorcycle at this point.

By the way... I typically commute 24 miles (one way) to work on a bicycle, no problem. 5-10 mile commute is simple for most committed riders.

what do people look for in an electric bike?

I am designing an electric bike for commuters to use day in, day out. I am asking you guys who live on the outskirts of cities to give me what you want in the perfect personal transport. This product is made for the masses and made by the masses. Any answers will be appreciated and taken into account. Thanks all!
May i add that this is a conceptual design project :)

Answer
I've been working on the same thing for different clients for years, but I'll tell you what things designers are trying to overcome:

1) Weight. The current technologies simply do not allow an e-bike that weighs under 50 pounds. A good target weight should be in the mid-20s;

2) Battery size. The size of even the smallest battery right now takes up precious space for carrying other stuff, and if the battery gets too small the range is reduced tremendously. Right now, Mitsubishi probably makes the best battery/motor combination;

3) Loaded range. Put a rider and 35 pounds of gear on the bike and ride it up a 5% grade, 1 mile long hill two or three times. Nuff said.

What type of cables do I use to connect 4 12volt batteries to my electric bike?

Q. Hi. I'm trying to connect four 12-volt batteries together (I think they're supposed to run parallel), so that I can power a 48volt, 500watt motor.
I'm not very electronically/mechanically minded....so I'm not sure what exactly to use to connect these batteries. Would some type of clamps work? The batteries have little prong ends, not the kind like car batteries with the hole ends for big screws.

Thank you for your help!

Answer
For a 48 volt motor, you will need to connect the batteries in series. + on one to - on the next one and so on (see series drawing here):

http://www.electricfence-online.co.uk/shop/renewable-energy/renewable-energy-advice-faqs/battery-bank-wiring.html

You will need heavy gauge (10 ga or larger) battery type wire with ring or spade lugs for attaching to the posts:

Answer
What Makes it a Hybrid?
Many people have probably owned a hybrid vehicle at some point. For example, a mo-ped (a motorized pedal bike) is a type of hybrid because it combines the power of a gasoline engine with the pedal power of its rider. In fact, hybrid vehicles are all around us. Most of the locomotives we see pulling trains are diesel-electric hybrids. Cities like Seattle have diesel-electric buses -- these can draw electric power from overhead wires or run on diesel when they are away from the wires. Giant mining trucks are often diesel-electric hybrids. Submarines are also hybrid vehicles -- some are nuclear-electric and some are diesel-electric. Any vehicle that combines two or more sources of power that can directly or indirectly provide propulsion power is a hybrid.
Most hybrid cars on the road right now are gasoline-electric hybrids, although French car maker PSA Peugeot Citroen has two diesel-electric hybrid cars in the works. Since gasoline hybrids are the kind you'll find at your local car dealership, we'll focus on those in this article.

The gasoline-electric hybrid car is just what it sounds like -- a cross between a gasoline-powered car and an electric car. Let's start with a few diagrams to explain the differences between a gasoline-powered car and a typical electric car.

A gas-powered car has a fuel tank, which supplies gasoline to the engine. The engine then turns a transmission, which turns the wheels.

Gasoline-powered car
Move your mouse over the parts for a 3-D view.

An electric car, on the other hand, has a set of batteries that provides electricity to an electric motor. The motor turns a transmission, and the transmission turns the wheels.

Electric car
Move your mouse over the parts for a 3-D view.

The hybrid is a compromise. It attempts to significantly increase the mileage and reduce the emissions of a gas-powered car while overcoming the shortcomings of an electric car.

To be useful to you or me, a car must meet certain minimum requirements. The car should be able to:

Drive at least 300 miles (482 km) between re-fueling
Be refueled quickly and easily
Keep up with the other traffic on the road
A gasoline car meets these requirements but produces a relatively large amount of pollution and generally gets poor gas mileage. An electric car, however, produces almost no pollution, but it can only go 50 to 100 miles (80 to 161 km) between charges. And the problem has been that the electric car is very slow and inconvenient to recharge.

A gasoline-electric car combines these two setups into one system that leverages both gas power and electric power. In the next section, you'll learn about two different hybrid structures: a parallel hybrid car and a series hybrid car
Hybrid Efficiency and Performance
The key to a hybrid car is that the gasoline engine can be much smaller than the one in a conventional car and therefore more efficient. Most cars require a relatively big engine to produce enough power to accelerate the car quickly. In a small engine, however, the efficiency can be improved by using smaller, lighter parts, by reducing the number of cylinders and by operating the engine closer to its maximum load.
There are several reasons why smaller engines are more efficient than bigger ones:

The big engine is heavier than the small engine, so the car uses extra energy every time it accelerates or drives up a hill.
The pistons and other internal components are heavier, requiring more energy each time they go up and down in the cylinder.
The displacement of the cylinders is larger, so more fuel is required by each cylinder.
Bigger engines usually have more cylinders, and each cylinder uses fuel every time the engine fires, even if the car isn't moving.
This explains why two of the same model cars with different engines can get different mileage. If both cars are driving along the freeway at the same speed, the one with the smaller engine uses less energy. Both engines have to output the same amount of power to drive the car, but the small engine uses less power to drive itself. But how can this smaller engine provide the power your car needs to keep up with the more powerful cars on the road?
Let's compare a car like the Chevy Camaro, with its big V-8 engine, to our hybrid car with its small gas engine and electric motor. The engine in the Camaro has more than enough power to handle any driving situation. The engine in the hybrid car is powerful enough to move the car along on the freeway, but when it needs to get the car moving in a hurry, or go up a steep hill, it needs help. That "help" comes from the electric motor and battery -- this system steps in to provide the necessary extra power.

The gas engine on a conventional car is sized for the peak power requirement (those few times when you floor the accelerator pedal). In fact, most drivers use the peak power of their engines less than one percent of the time. The hybrid car uses a much smaller engine, one that is sized closer to the average power requirement than to the peak power.

Besides a smaller, more efficient engine, today's hybrids use many other tricks to increase fuel efficiency. Some of those tricks will help any type of car get better mileage, and some only apply to a hybrid. To squeeze every last mile out of a gallon of gasoline, a hybrid car can:

Recover energy and store it in the battery - Whenever you step on the brake pedal in your car, you are removing energy from the car. The faster a car is going, the more kinetic energy it has. The brakes of a car remove this energy and dissipate it in the form of heat. A hybrid car can capture some of this energy and store it in the battery to use later. It does this by using "regenerative braking." That is, instead of just using the brakes to stop the car, the electric motor that drives the hybrid can also slow the car. In this mode, the electric motor acts as a generator and charges the batteries while the car is slowing down.

Sometimes shut off the engine - A hybrid car does not need to rely on the gasoline engine all of the time because it has an alternate power source -- the electric motor and batteries. So the hybrid car can sometimes turn off the gasoline engine, for example when the vehicle is stopped at a red light.

The frontal area profile of a small and large car

Use advanced aerodynamics to reduce drag - When you are driving on the freeway, most of the work your engine does goes into pushing the car through the air. This force is known as aerodynamic drag. This drag force can be reduced in a variety of ways. One sure way is to reduce the frontal area of the car. Think of how a big SUV has to push a much greater area through the air than a tiny sports car.
Reducing disturbances around objects that stick out from the car or eliminating them altogether can also help to improve the aerodynamics. For example, covers over the wheel housings smooth the airflow and reduce drag. And sometimes, mirrors are replaced with small cameras.

Use low-rolling resistance tires - The tires on most cars are optimized to give a smooth ride, minimize noise, and provide good traction in a variety of weather conditions. But they are rarely optimized for efficiency. In fact, the tires cause a surprising amount of drag while you are driving. Hybrid cars use special tires that are both stiffer and inflated to a higher pressure than conventional tires. The result is that they cause about half the drag of regular tires.

Use lightweight materials - Reducing the overall weight of a car is one easy way to increase the mileage. A lighter vehicle uses less energy each time you accelerate or drive up a hill. Composite materials like carbon fiber or lightweight metals like aluminum and magnesium can be used to reduce weight.
All of the hybrid cars on the market utilize some or all of these efficiency tricks. Let's take a look at the hybrid models you can buy right now.

Looking to buy a Honda CRF230F Dirt Bike?

I am looking at buying a Honda CRF230F. Does anyone have any experience with this bike. I want a bike that is a good on trails and at the dunes. Please Help? I am a beginning rider, i am 17, weigh 150 and I am 6 ft tall. Is this the kind of bike i am looking for?

Answer
I had a 2005 for about a year or so. It is a fun bike to play on and it has plenty power for a novice. The only real down sides are that the bike is a little heavy compared to a CRF250, it may feel a little bit cramped at your height but no big deal there, the suspension is fine for casual riding but can't handle motocross size jumps, and it is electric start only, no kick starter. For the money you really can't beat this bike. The CRF250 would obviously be a better bike, but that's why it's twice as much money also. If you haven't already sat on one try that first, but be sure to put your feet up on the pegs not on the floor. It is the bar to peg distance that is somewhat limited. You can always add taller bars to help the ergos.

Answer
I am sorry to say that e-bike quality increases as price increases. There are no exceptional values.

The main quality variation that can be noticed is the weight and quality of the battery. Many bikes that are low priced can have the trouble traced to it. Regrettably, one cannot simply swap to a better quality battery to take advantage of a low priced bike.

Please do NOT purchase an e-bike online. There are too many things that may require attention and many bike shops will not deal with bike they didn't sell. Take your time, find shops in your area that sell e-bikes, and discuss their features with the sales person.

I also have a Nissan d21 pickup that gets 24mpg and it costs me 60 dollars a year for oil changes

Answer
You are comparing a far lighter but very inefficient vehicle (motorcycle) to a far heavier but very efficient vehicle (Nissan Leaf,) and I am left to wonder what you want.

Your bike is getting 60 mpg on a good day. The Leaf will get a little less than twice that with no oil changes or other maintenance.

As a heavier and enclosed vehicle the leaf will give you more protection from the elements.

The motorcycle insurance is cheaper than that of a car because the smart people there have noticed it is more likely that you will be killed on a bike than you will kill someone. This will probably make the motorcycle cheaper with more personal risk...

and lets face it ... thrills... although the first time I drove an EV it reminded me of the acceleration of a 750cc bike.

What kind of motorbike should I get?

I'm 14, about 1.68m and 65kgs. I want to get a dirt bike to learn to ride on, and to ride around my farm. I was thinking something like a Honda CRF 230F, or something like that. I have never ridden before, but I'm a fast learner, and am pretty good at driving quad bikes. Also, if it matters at all, I'm a girl.

Answer
You could go for a 230... They are big bikes though and have a lot of bottom end power.. but not much top end... great if you want to slowly power up a steep hill.. not so good if you want a bit more speed and power at the top end.. I personally would get like a Suzuki RM 125... they are light, fast, ALOT of power.. especially at top end.. cheaper, easy and cheaper to fix... the 230 is big and heavy.. the upsides of it are electric start and you are less likely to flip it on a steep hill... but for fun (disregarding safety) id go for a light two stroke machine :)... You will probably flip the 125 up a steep hill though.. especially at first.. but yeah.. its alot cheaper and easy to fix.. lighter as well.. just be sure to get the fuel to two stroke oil mix correct and dont use a cheap oil.. it will wear out your piston rings... To be honest ive ridden plenty 230's... i got board real quick.. but if you dont mind a bit less speed and adrenaline.. go for it :) hope i helped.

Name the model of the bike.Which year and why was it the first famous Harley worldwide after WW2 ?

Answer
after world war two the main competition was Indian and triumph,Indian killed themselves with to much research and Development.Indian was far ahead of Harley with new things like electric start but reliability suffered. Triumph gave H.D. a run for their money by building smaller, lighter, faster bikes. Harley responded to Triumph by making the sportster which came from the K model. The sporty at that time had its shifter on the right side and a straight seat just like a Triumph. The 45 cubic inch motor was still in production and was used in the three wheel servicar that police departments liked to use as well as being used by corporations such as Good Humor ice cream.

What is the best way to purchase a moped / electric scooter?

StraightBa

I have decided to buy a moped (or electric scooter) to use casually around my neighborhood (not for extremely long hauls).

Since I don't know much about mopeds, the only place I went to was vespa.com. Most of their options are extremely expensive. I'm looking to spend no more than $1,000.

I'm looking for recommendations about obtaining one. Are their other good companies besides vespa? Are their moped/dealer shops that I could visit locally to actually see the different options.

Should I go and test drive one, like I do with cars? Or is this something I should simply buy online (and go that route).

Any other things I should be looking for?

Answer
Mopeds have pedals, scooters have floorboards.
Vespas are scooters, expensive scooters. You can get around just as well on other brands like Kymco, Genuine, Piaggio, Yamaha, Sym, and Honda but you aren't going to get any of those new for $1000.
You might be able to get a Chinese scooter new for that but even that is doubtful since scooter prices have gone up quite a bit. Also from what I hear many of shops are out of scooters these days so you might want to call around to see who has what.
I read a good review on a Velocity electric scooter but I don't know the cost.
As far as mopeds you might call some bicycle stores and see if they carry electric bikes. I have never seen one in a scooter or motorcycle dealer.
You might be able to find something used on Craigslist.
Other things....
Check into what your local laws are for licensing. In CA we have to have a M2 license even for mopeds. Some states don't require anything for up to 50cc scooters.
Figure out how fast you will need to go before you buy something. Don't get a scooter that top ends at 30 when you have to get on roads where traffic goes 45.
If you want to get more info on drop ship (online) scooters check out the scootdawg forum. A lot of the people there own Chinese scooters and might be able to point you towards better brands and dealers.

I really want a electric bike for my 13th but my mom says I could kill myself on one! I would ride on side walks and "easy" roads just to school and my friends house (I live across the street from my school). I know the limit is 20 mph for driving one, and my max would be 15 and more like 10 on sidewalks that aren't busy. Is it legal to ride one in South Carolina at my age? Should I forget about it?
I REALLLLLLY WANT ONE!

Answer
Yes if it's electric and uses the sidewalk anything that requires gas and the roadway traffic you need a driving license!

Can I use motorcycle batteries with electric bicycle?

Valerka

Just want to save money on gas by going to work and back home (almost 40 miles per day) I don't mind putting a few batteries onto the electric bike (to meet the voltage). Do you think that is possible?

Answer
You will have to do a little research yourself, but a quick look it seems that a electric hub on a regular bicycle, capable of 15-20 mph, capable of 10 miles, would take a pair of 10AH 12V SLA batteries. For your capacity you will be looking at a pair of automobile batteries.

How much electric can I generate with a bike, and what is it worth.?

best electric bike value on Electric Bike Solutions, LLC - Electric Bike Kit (Best Value)
best electric bike value image

John R

I have seen various web-sites that show that someone pedaling a bike that is hooked to a a generator can power various appliances. These web-sites say things like if you pedal for an hour you can power a laptop for three hours. Or they say that you can charge a 12 volt battery. What I want to know is the dollar value of electric that one could generate by pedaling for one hour on a bike that is hooked to some sort of electric generator. An estimate of the cost of each kilowatt hour would be fine.

Answer
Pennies. If you peddle your little heart out all day you might make enough for a cup of coffee. Think about it: Lets estimate that you can generate 100 watts per hour (which I believe is a pretty generous estimate). At $.10 (10 cents) per KwH, you will make $.10 (10 cents) for every 10 hours you peddle. Even if we increased our estimated production by ten fold (to 1,000 watts per hour) you would only make a dollar from ten hours of peddling. I think if this was a viable option for producing electricity, some joker in a 3rd world country would already have a warehouse full of people peddling away.

Like how much value?
I just want to see how bad my parents are.
They never buy me anything I want, and in total it's usually under 50$,

Answer
Oh they often spend thousands and they should spend that on you too (NOT!)

I have friends that give their four children everything they want for this silly Holiday. Well they never really recover from the debt, and I saw a notices on there door all year like Water Termination Notices from the City, Natural Gas shut off, Electric shut-off and two separate eviction notices from their apartment.

Last week all of the kid's so coveted toys and games were on the side walk out front from the landlord dumping it outside. All the neighborhood kids were gathering toys, computers and games, bikes etc.

I have an old Zap electric bike and something is wrong with the circuit board so I plan to just wire the motor to a switch that I apply when I feel it is safe, for example, when I am traveling at speed to avoid overworking the motor.

Answer
its not the best idea if it goes it might fry the whole electric system if you have a fuse it will just blow that hope it helps good luck :)

What are the steps to make an electric bike out of items that are not 100$?

How do I make a motor for a electric bike what pieces do I need ?

Answer
To make a high-quality one that can go fairly fast, you probably couldn't.

On the other hand, if you don't want to go above 15-20mph, you could probably make one for under $100. Buy a cheap broken electric scooter. Chances are the motor on it still works and you can use that. Those motors can get you going close to 20mph with the right gear ratios.

A motor controller could also be obtained from a scooter, or, if the motor you are using is not significantly powerful (<36v), you could probably buy a brand new controller for fairly cheap.

Batteries may cost a little more, but you could get sealed lead acid batteries for under $100 for sure.

Plus, their are the little things like the throttle, which is generally a potentiometer. These can be very cheap on Ebay.

I live about 2 miles from work, and have a bike path directly to the office. I want to get an electric bike or convert my beach cruiser to an electric bike. Thoughts on this? Suggestions?

Answer
You can order an electric bike from walmart.com, and it's under $500. I think it's called the izip, or the ezip. But their cheap. completely cheap. cheap bikes with cheap components.

You can get a pretty good kit for your beach cruiser.

Can the pedaling energy charge the battery of an electric bike?

Answer
You will have to pedal extra hard to keep the bike going and to charge the battery. It could be done, but it would be easier and more efficient to pedal a regular (lighter) bike.

Maybe you could use a large solar panel to power the bike

What are some cities to avoid living California?

the best electric bicycle of the world image

grr

I want to live in california and close to LA. I would be doing acting and modeling, I know LA is VERY expensive, but I am looking for something a little cheaper, preferrably a two bedroom for 1000-1400.

what are some cities I should avoid living in? I looked at hawthorne and Gardena, I dont want to live in the ghetto, I know its very dangerous.

Answer
I think for now, you should just avoid California, period.

Did you ever consider the fact that LA is not the cheapest place in the world?

Coastal California is the MOST COVETED area which means MORE $$$.

Affordability does not exist in Los Angeles. Starting prices begin at around $1000+/mo. and that's usually for a studio in a somewhat decent area. And those luxurious, modern looking condos you see in the movies and television programs are not common in a typical Los Angeles neighborhood. Common condos/apartments/studios in Los Angeles are old, ghetto-looking buildings, and those do not come cheap at all as mentioned above.

Jobs are also nonexistent at the moment. Unemployment rates have jumped to 13% so good luck finding a job. Even if you find a job, that job will barely pay the rent (or not even come close to paying the rent.)

Keep in mind you do NEED to buy groceries, hygiene products, clothes, gas, electric, water, insurance, car, etc. and none of that is going to be cheap neither. Also, you're going to need to save money for doctor visits and need to keep money in case something critical happens to you (you'll never know!)

Speaking of cars, you NEED a car in order to live in Los Angeles. The roads in Los Angeles are not bicycle friendly and things are not conveniently located, unfortunately. The insurance for the car is not going to be cheap since the rate in Los Angeles are high and the gas prices are going to make you want to move back to your hometown.

Also, keep in mind that there is NO SUCH THING as a "safe" place. You can live in a "safe" place and still have a looney neighbor that decided to get drunk and run over an innocent child playing outside with his car or a guy that has beef with another guy in your neighborhood and decides to pop a glock on his head.

And moving here to be an actor/actress is one sure way of saying, "You'll either be back home, in pornography, or dead on the streets in a few moths - to a year." There are literally MILLIONS of people who flock to Los Angeles for that dream and only less than 0.5% actually make it and only a small fraction of the millions that come actually have LOADS of experience.

Moving to Los Angeles is NOT going to increase your chances of becoming an actor/actress. All it means is that you live there. PERIOD. Take Fred as a perfect example. He's still currently living in Omaha, Nebraska and he's already got a contract with Nickelodeon.

Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake got contracts with Disney in the 90s and neither of them were living in California.

Usher started his career while living in Atlanta, GA.

Justin Bieber got launched in Canada.

Zac Efron already had his history and he was living in a small town of San Luis Obispo, CA then later in Arroyo Grande, CA (both are 200+ miles away from LA) while he was building up.

Also, major studios PREFER acting experience. If you have no experience, you can just forget about it. Those who have been acting since they were wearing diapers have a pretty slim chance, let alone those who now potty trained.

So please, spare us the details on how you want to live in Los Angeles, CA to become an actor/actress. The best way to do this is to get established at home and then when you get into bigger and better things, you can make the consideration of moving to Los Angeles.

Which road bike would you recommend for me?

Kevin

I need a bike for getting around as fast and efficiently as possible. There are no hills, except for bridges, and no sharp turns, so something more laid back would be nice. I'll be doing a most 20 miles at a given time. I'm able to spend around $500. Which bike would you recommend me? Would it be a good idea to get one with an electric or petrol motor? Where is a good place or website to browse bikes?

Answer
From a bike shop - you will NOT find one for $500. IF and only IF you can assemble & TUNE-UP a bicycle, there are sites on line to pick up some good ones. They'll still be in the $400 to $600 price range for quality.

http://www.citygrounds.com/road-bikes
http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/road_bikes.htm

Not a bike in this world comes "ready to ride" out of the box. If you're buying over the Internet... A) Know for damn sure what frame size you need. And B) Have a bike shop assemble & tune it up properly. Money well spent.
