Gas conversion kit?

Brandon

Anyone ever use one of these things? I came across it on ebay earlier and it looks like a fun project. I'd obviously not put it on my competition bike, but a could see picking up an inexpensive single speed bike to use it on.

Below is a link to reference.

Nice, if you would or could read carefully, I noted that it wasn't intended for my competition bike but rather as a project.

Hope that answers your question of "Why bother?" .... genius

Answer
The chances are, that an 80cc petrol motor will make it illegal to ride on the roads. Most states and countries have limits that apply to power assisted bicycles. Check the laws at your location. (Canada is it?)

Many places require a vehicle with an engine of this size to be registered and the chances of getting a bicycle fitted with one approved are virtually zero.

There are similar things using 32 cc weed-eater motors that you will stand a much better chance with. There are also plenty of electric kits that you can get.

In my opinion fitting an engine (noisy or not) to a bicycle kind of kills the enjoyment. (but that is just me). I have experience motorising something similar to a fully faired recumbent trike. That was quite an interesting project. I'm itching to do another one.

What is the best electric bicycle?
