Is a 2005-2006 kawasaki klx 125 a good dirt bike?

Tim

Im getting a klx 125 soon. Its either 05 or 06. I just didnt know if it was a good, fast dirt bike.

Answer
Hello,
I cannot answer about the performance of how fast or weight and handling.I can answer about the engine and mechanics of the bike.As you know it is Japanese made with pride and quality as good as any other Japanese bike like Honda Etc in my opinion because I am a certified mechanic and work mainly on all Japanese bikes. The 2006 model has only the kick start and some of these came only set up for dirt or meaning off road, make sure when you purchase you ask about the title in case it is or has been set up for the on road use.It has the mikuni carburetor with drum brakes front and back with cdi electronic ignition. The 2012 Klx 125 Kawasaki is a endure and off road bike meaning you can title the bike and drive it on the road legally or just use it off road your choice but it does come with all the federal regulated electronics like horn lights blinkers headlight and so on.It is a dual overhead cam putting out around 10.9 horsepower with fuel injection digital dc-cdi ignition meaning no carburetor or points to deal with and a 5 speed manual transmission electric start and kick start, twin caliper front brake system for exceptional braking a 1.85 gallon of fuel that will probably take you near 150 miles or more depending on how you drive it.The older model 2003 has all the same except it has a mikuni carburetor. The engines are your basic 4 stroke oil forced lubrication with a sinle piston and dual valves. These engines are bullet proof,I have worked on a few only to tune them up and install new rings and valve job.The top end is the only thing that really wears on the bike like all good Japanese bikes meaning after many miles of riding sometimes you have to install new rings and grind the valves to keep the horsepower up to where ir should be and a valve job with some new gaskets and your ready to put another several thousand miles on the bike. The parts are relatively inexpensive as well and very economical to maintain as a whole bike.It is a very nice bike to use on road and off.If you are a beginner rider then this bike would be for you because it is very easy to learn on easy to ride light in weight corners the road easily with excellent handling and braking power. You will not be disappointed if you purchase a Kawasaki klx 125,just remember to keep the oil changed at regular intervals along with the air cleaner filter fuel filter and you will have years of use with several thousand enjoyable inexpensive miles of riding.Good luck with your purchase and if you have anymore questions please ask and I'll answer them as I can. Please let us know your decision as I would like to know if you like the bike after your purchase.Take care ride safe and always wear a helmet.

kx250f or 2012 sxf250? opinions please?

I'm 19, 5'5 , 140lbs and im looking for a next dirtbike for trail riding but have troubles if i dump the bike getting on and starting it because of seat hight. its very fustrating. The bikes i have ridden are 1st-1982 mx175, 2nd- 2002 yz125, 3rd-2008 crf150rb, 4th- 2007 kx100. experienced seat hight trouble with yz 125 (seat hight-39in)
kx250f seat hight 37in and have considered shaving seat and lowering by forks but the new 2012 ktm sxf250 has electric start which would make things much easyer but seat hight is 39in as well. Not sure what too do or what would be the reasonable choice.

Answer
If your wanting to save some money and your stuck between the 2 id say the kawi. ktm's are the most spendy for sure (KTM = Kost Too Much.) Although I love mine but i ride woods and nothing else really. They do make a great bike but you'll be spending more... I'd also look into the CRF's if I were you. I had a CRF250f and LOVED it. As for the height problem.... You'll get more comfortable the more you ride and theres ways of lowering your rear shock and front forks but its kinda spendy. You could also cut some seat foam but i personally prefer a nice seat and not hard plastic.
