Has the "BP"(ARCO) oil spill made the 2012 destruction of planet Earth a reality?

Answer
No, the "BP"(ARCO) oil spill has not made the 2012 destruction of planet Earth a reality.

When someone says, âI want to boycott BP,â the person you wind up hurting is the guy who lives in the community, buys the pages in the high school year book, and the cookies from the girl scouts.

What I think they ought to do instead isâ¦start walking.

In other words, boycotting certain gas stations only stands to harm individual gas station owners, not the larger company. Thatâs because individual stations that have the BP logo on them may or may not buy from a BP gas distributor. More importantly, stations that donât have the BP logo are just as likely to buy from a BP distributor. A host of liberal media outlets, from the New York Times to Time magazine, have pointed out the futility of a boycott.

the only way to really ensure environmental safety is to boycott oil entirely.

But it doesn't even end there. So you buy a plug-in electric car. But that energy you're charging it with could come from a power plant burning natural gas. And, oh wait -- according to BP's website: http://www.bp.com/sectiongenericarticle.do?categoryId=3050046&contentId=3050873

Today, natural gas makes up more than half of BP's energy production, making us the largest producer and supplier in the U.S. In fact, the metro busses here in DC run on natural gas, so perhaps public transportation is out of the question as well. That leaves your bicycle and feet. An inconvenient truth, indeed.

In the real world, no matter how careful you are, accidents happen. There's always the possibility of human error, and sometimes even machines and computers malfunction. So long as an ecological disaster is possible, no matter how improbable, you have to be comfortable with the fact that it could happen.

That's not to say that BP (and probably others) shouldn't have done a better job in identifying more effective disaster containment. It just means that if we want to live in a world where we consume energy and resources in the way we do, we must accept the possibility that, from time to time, things go very badly. We certainly don't have to like it, but we can't pretend that boycotting one company will change very much. o_O

Should I get a moped?

awakenmust

Hi, i'm 16 and I really wish I could transport myself places that are further than walking distance, aka not 3 hours away on foot.

I really want a motorcycle but I can't wear the gear everywhere I go. Helmet & leather jacket i'm fine with as I already wear a leather jacket all the time and there's a super cool iron maiden helmet I want but I can't wear leather pants and boots everytime I want to go somewhere. I found a moped that looks exactly like a motorcycle and it seemed perfect but I don't know if it will work.

The issue with a moped (tomos streetmate) is the DMV website for california says I can only go 20 mph which is too slow. I don't understand why I can't go 30mph, I don't plan on riding it in front of cars as you would with a motorcycle i'd just ride it in bikelanes or whatever route is bike safe according to google maps. The tomos streetmate looks more like a motorcycle than a moped so perhaps I could get away with riding it 30mph but motorcycles aren't even allowed on bike lanes I think.

I can already drive a car really well but I don't have my lisence and I can't afford a car and i'm super picky when choosing one (I loooove 80's cars but you know it's well not the 80's it's 2012 so finding one wouldn't be easy)

Answer
I think you might be confused. The Streetmate goes 30mph and is classed as a moped (406a) and you need an M1 or M2 license. The electric motorized bicycle (406b) can only go up to 20mph, and you do not need a license. By the way, you don't have to wear leather pants and boots. Just not shorts and flip-flops. If you ride NEAR the bike lane, (allowing cars room to pass) you can ride safely on a small bike without causing too much of a clog. Clogs are dangerous as cars will be jerks to get ahead.

From the DMV website...

A "motorized bicycle" or "moped" is:

A two or three-wheeled device, capable of no more than 30 mph on level ground, and equipped with:

â Fully operative pedals for human propulsion.
â A motor producing less than two gross brake horsepower and an automatic transmission.
â An electric motor, with or without pedals for human propulsion. (CVC §406(a))

Driver must have a motorcycle license (M1 or M2).

A âmotorized bicycleâ is also defined as a vehicle with pedals and an electric motor (not more than 1,000 watts) which cannot be driven at speeds of more than 20 mph on level ground even if assisted by human power. (CVC §406(b)).

If you operate a motorized bicycle which meets the definition of CVC §406(b), you:

â Must be 16 years of age or older.
â Must wear a properly fitted and fastened bicycle helmet.
â Are exempt from the motor vehicle financial responsibility, driver license, and moped plate requirements (CVC §12804.9).

a barrel of oil is better cheap or expensive for the economy?

katie

i dnt get it either but in this article for school and it says a barrel of oil will prob cost 300 by 2012 so is that goo dor bad?

Answer
in all of human history p to about 1850 the only way to build or do anything was with human muscle power. that is why there were slaves and workers paid almost nothing by the rich and powerful

machines using fuel, wood or coal or oil for steam, gas motors or electric generators can do much much more. a human muscle work is worth only about $0.50 a Day, less than the cost of the food to feed him

when oil was discovered in american in the 1890s it was so plentiful it cost less than a few dollars a barrel. gasoline was a waste product while making kerosene for lamps

only cheap clean energy produces real wealth meaning stuff. money is just paper to keep score.

in 1970s the america reached "peak oil"we used our won FASTER than we drilled and found new oil so we bought oil from the arabs. they stopped selling it and it almost collapsed the American economy. One of the reasons we had WW II was because America supplied japan with oil and when they attacked China we stopped their oil. they had 6 months to a year at most, to attack us, win the war, attack southeast asia And get oil there. otherwise they would have starved and gone back to planting rice with water buffalo

Today there is a huge and growing demand for oil. all our mid east wars are really about controlling oil.

oil at $75 a barrel we can afford. at $100 it slows our economy. $300 a barrel we would be in a great depression. but we would have an all out war in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq or where ever the oil was found

WE HAVE TO STOP USING OIL. there is no other choice. except coal and coal is VERY dirty and dangerous.

The sun is the natural source of almost all energy on earth. it is just expensive to make solar electric systems. and we have stupidly let China manufacture them all. Our company just went out of business due to costs and cheap Chinese products.

at $300 a barrel oil you will ride bicycle and have to grow your own food in your back yard, or starve. Farmers need oil for all their machines, fertilizer and for trucking the food hundreds of miles to the cities.

Pay attention to this news it is VERY important to YOUR future.

2012 is much too soon but 20 50 maybe?

why gas prices are so high?

ronilo

we have a car and we suffer of this gas crisis. Im wondering why, nature does not get money from those oil miners, they get gases underground for free!!!!and why do they increase the prices of these FREE gases underground???

high demand??? what a heck, why the dont suck gas underground to make millions and millions and billions of gallons of gas. or get a underground gas-sucking device???

im mad of those high prices.

or, mother nature makes it high to reduce global warming??? oh men, go back to bicycle...

and i expect that the prices WONT get down when it higher.

Answer
we cant do anything but to reduce the usage. china and other countries use more gases and we pay for it. bikes? electric cars are better. if the gas prices become low, i think it will be in 2012, or something like that.... and i think that we already sucked the rest of the underground gas. go electric!!!!

Answer
Look at the show V that's on now...

1st of all the myans made a spiritual prophecy and were not promoting a movie...2012 is when demons will be let loose, not the worlds end on that date. 1st millions of people will vanish off the earth. . Then demons trick people with a false religion. Some people may have abilities and perform acts thru Satans powers. There will be 3.5 years of peace at first. Then in the final days 7years past 2012-2013 all will die as foretold who reject God/Christ and go for the false religion and new world leader.

Demons are fallen angels, angels who rebelled against God. Demons are evil, deceptive, and destructive. According to 2 Corinthians 11:14-15, demons masquerade as âangels of lightâ and as âservants of righteousness.â Appearing as a âghostâ and impersonating a deceased human being definitely is a disguise that demons use as well as other things like aliens and some types of lightships/ufos.

Abductions are suspect--In cases of alien abductions the person or persons abducted are not christians nor followers of Christ or religious for that matter. In many cases these persons can atest they called on the name of the Lord...and the abduction stopped immediately. Aliens are Satans demons and are here for no other purpose but to raise the possibility that there is no God and to debunk anything that has to do with the Lord. For instance, there is already a theory that when the rapture happens...everyone left here on earth will blame it on the aliens. The missing persons and the alien presence when released by the goverment will have the widespread teachings of creation by them and their ancestors as well as other lies. This is all a plan by Satan to deceive the masses.

Can I use student loan for apartment?

Joshua

I will be starting college in fall and I have been blessed with free tutuion because my mom worked at university for 10 years. However room and bored is not free it's 10,000 a year. I was wondering instead of taking out a loan to cover that I could room with a buddy for a shared apartment at 473 a month. Thats a little less then half the price with utilities included. Also if I wanted to spring up to nicer places in 900 range it's still cheaper. Can I do this and how can I if I can
Im interested in a loan from CITI bank or Wells Fargo not goverment loans

Answer
From the Federal Student Aid Handbook, 2011-2012. U.S. Department of Education, vol 4, chapt. 1, page 4-12:
[Quote]
The law allows a school to credit a studentâs account with FSA funds only to pay for institutionally provided housing.
[End quote]
Source: http://ifap.ed.gov/fsahandbook/attachments/1112FSAHdbkVol4Ch1.pdf

"FSA funds" means both Pell Grant money and Federal student loan money.

If, after all of your school costs: tuition, course fees, books and class supplies are paid for out of your FSA, there is money left over, you may use it to apply for your housing off-campus. However, because of U.S. Dept. of Education rules and the school's policies and procedures you will probably not receive any refunded FSA (if there is any unused funds) until weeks and weeks after school has started. Therefore, you will still need money (yours) to pay for your rent, food, and other household expenses - electric/natural gas utilities, internet service, cable/dish TV service, telephone service - before school starts and for several months into the semester or longer.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Added: When planning a budget for off-campus living expenses, also include an estimate for entertainment (going to movies, concerts, etc.) and meals/snacks at restaurants and for clothes an personal care expenses. Also, if the apartment will not be close to campus so you cannot walk or bicycle to/from school, plan on transportation costs. Plus, plan on the cost of transportation to/from campus/the place where your college is located at the beginning and end of each semester and at holiday and break times. Also, realize that unless it is a month-to-month tenancy lease, an apartment will require at least a 1-year lease (12 months - plan for paying rent and other household expenses for 12 full months) plus an initial security deposit (often the same amount as 1 month's rent.)

I see your Additional Details. If you will be eligible for a private student loan, with or without a co-signer (you or a co-signer will need an excellent credit rating for one thing), figure in the accruing interest rate (about 12% per month) on the loan amount. Plus, be aware that with private loans you will need to start repaying them (with the accruing interest) shortly after you sign the loan documents (that means while you are still at college.)

Student financial aid experts advise against private student loans for undergraduates, in general, and definitely advise against them to pay for living expenses. Do you really want to have to pay for your college housing, meals, etc. (with accrued interest) for about the next 20 years?

I do hope you currently are working at a part-time paying job and you can take on more work hours after graduation, during this summer so you can save as much of your earnings as possible to cover your living expenses at college (minimum estimate of $1,000 per month), so you will not feel you will need to take on a tremendous private loan debt you will live to regret. Also, I hope you plan on working at least part-time while enrolled at your college so you can earn money to pay for your on-going living expenses. Many colleges offer on-campus jobs for just their students. Ask an adviser at your school fin. aid office about those.

Answer
Let me help you bring your carbon footprint down to absaolute zero...

Let me help you lower your carbon footprint down to absolute zero...

First, cut off your electrical breaker box. With you not using any electricity, this will bring your carbon footprint down dramatically.

Second, if you are using home heating oil or natural gas, turn the valve to off. Another great way to lower your carbon footprint.

Third, park your vehicles and use your bicycle to get to work and to wherever you need to go. Now you are really bringing your carbon footprint down.

Forth, do not mow or weed-eat your lawn. Since you have cut out your biggest carbon producers, this is the next in line.

Fifth, Stop using city supplied water. That takes electric pumps so if you can cut out your share, that will lower your carbon footprint even lower. Ride your bicycle down to the creek and get your daily water needs.

You are now on a roll. Don't stop now, we'll get your carbon footprint to ZERO yet.

Sixth, do not eat any animal products (meat). These animals not only produce CO2 but also methane.

Seventh, eat only home grown food since it takes trucks and warehouses to bring you food to market, by you only eating from your own backyard, you will not cause anybody else to produce greenhouse gasses to bring your food to market.

Now your carbon footprint is almost zero. There is one more way to cut your carbon footprint to absolute zero...

Place a plastic bag over your head and tie it tight to stop the exhaling of CO2 by your lungs.

YOU HAVE NOW DONE IT!!! Your carbon footprint is now at absolute zero and you have saved the world! Now, if we can just get all the other environmentalists to do the same we will save the world!

Is there a way electric magnets can be used to make hovering automobiles?

Little Mon

Maybe we could use powerful electric magnets like they use in junk yards to propel them and maybe we could use high speed fans or magnets to move them.

I was thinking of magnets in the roads maybe? Or better yet there may be a way we could use the earths natural magnetisation.

These things should exist. This is 2012 and I'm sick of people dreaming about the future. It's time we get off of our аsses and made hovering cars, printers that print objects rather than sheets of paper, robots that cook for us and answer questions faster than google can.

Anyway, do you think theres a way we can use magnetisation to propel human carriers?

I personally think we should ditch automobiles and use subways, buses (hovering buses), bicycles, and cabs for emergencies.

Answer
The future is here already...we already have maglev trains that operate in some countries on the principle of magnetic levitation. The problem with doing so with cars/trucks/buses is the cost of installing such systems on freeways/roads and equipping vehicles with the system...too expensive but some cities have proposed plans for such systems. But for now, mass transit Maglev trains will do and are much more efficient at transporting people/cargo than cars/trucks/buses. Even conventional trains are more efficient...a train can carry 1 ton of product or people some 436 miles on 1 gallon of fuel. Barges and ships are even better.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maglev_(transport)
http://old.post-gazette.com/maglev/maglev01.asp

We also have 3D printers that print entire objects as you say and Japan is a world leader in robotics due to their rapidly aging population...fewer young people to take care of the elderly so their plan is to create robotic assistants for the elderly....cooking, serving, vacuuming, shopping, etc..Look up ASIMO for one. Israel as well is developing robotics for military purposes since they have a small population compared to their enemy neighbors.

Does an electric bicycle qualify for a federal tax credit?

codezero18

Answer
For a vehicle which draws propulsion energy from a battery with at least 5 kilowatt hours of capacity,

http://www.irs.gov/Businesses/Plug-In-Electric-Vehicle-Credit-%28IRC-30-and-IRC-30D%29

The credit only applies to street legal motorcycles with 4 kilowatt-hour (or larger) battery packs that can go over 45 mph. The federal tax credit is available in all 50 US states and applies to motorcycles purchased in both 2012 (retroactive) and 2013.

I want a safe car for the winter time, what would you prefer?

best electric bicycle 2012 on Best Electric Bikes For 2012 - MetaEfficient
best electric bicycle 2012 image

Thistimear

Including 4 wheel drive and not being a truck or anything huge that wastes a ton of gas, or something super expensive- 18k price range.

Answer
There are no "safe cars" for any season of the year around the planet. Cars are not safe. They are motion, self propelled devices powered by internal, some say "infernal" combustion engines, albeit many new ones have electric motors, Yeah! Four wheel drive vehicles do not work if there is no friction. In fact, 98% of cars on the road ARE NOT four wheel drive and are driven year round rather successfully. The DRIVER , the knowledge, the training, the ability to think and judge the conditions is what is important and evolves to a safe driver. Plenty of 4X4 crash in winter as this has NOTHING to do with handling, braking or ability of the driver to use good judgment. Years ago when ABS came out insurance companies gave a discount as they though cars with ABS would crash less often. THEY WERE WRONG. When cars came out with Stability Control Programming, no discounts. Do these cars crash less? No they do not. As it happens, most people DO NOT EVEN KNOW HOW THESE WORK and crash anyway. Why? Because people take RISKS. In Kentucky alone in 2012 over 53,000 crashes were attributed to distracted driving which means texting/cell phone. Three days ago in my area an 18 year old female died when while texting lost control of her car and crashed. About the same time a mother of four kids, barely 26 years old, drove in front of a large, YELLOW, school bus as if this BUS did not exit. She dies. Cause? Texting. If you wish to buy a car, buy a car you want. However, get driving lessons. Most people DO NOT KNOW ENOUGH as to cars. Going to a driving school should be MANDATORY. If you wish to see what I mean go to "wreckedexotics.com" to see people with money to buy expensive cars but with no brains to buy driving lessons that have crashed their cars. Some die. The subject of tires, energy, handling, kinetic energy, stopping distances, etc. IS NEVER DISCUSSED. And so, you, in your state of being an average uneducated and untrained driver, have the opinion that there are safe winter cars? And you shall buy one but you shall crash THINKING that you can speed and mishandle the car because you have four wheel drive. Last year or two an author rode a model T Ford for one year. In that year there were over 8 million crashes, 40,000 people died 5,000 of them teens. With millions of injuries over 250,000 ended up with handicap level injuries. This guy? Not even a parking ticket. No heat, no radio, very small almost bicycle size tires. And yet, not a scratch on the car. Why? He knew how to drive and when to drive and where to drive. No chances. My 2001 Audi is front wheel drive. Five speed manual. I drive year round. If there is snow, seldom in my area, over two inches, I wait for the roads to be cleared. The car does not have a scratch on it. Why? I have taken driving lessons, I never speed and I seldom take chances on the road. People have tried to crash into me. They speed, do not stop at stop signs, tailgate, etc. But I know what do to. How about you? Care to evolve into a safe driver? Get lessons. The car is not that important. YOU ARE.

Has the "BP"(ARCO) oil spill made the 2012 destruction of planet Earth a reality?

guitarohol

Is it possible the global corporate community is hiding the devastating truth?
Will the destroyed eco systems cause all of the others to fail?
How many new jobs will be created to get the cleanup done?
Where is the public outrage?
Would a boycott of ARCO gas stations wake up British Petroleum?
Wow! Impressive answers. Seriously, I appreciate all of the answers because they tell me good people are concerned. I award thumbs up to all answers and will choose the best one... Thanks again.

We certainly don't have to like it, but we can't pretend that boycotting one company will change very much. o_O

You will have to get this done for your vehicle.

Bed Bug Infestation help please :/?

Manish Vas

It all started when my dad got a second hand bed to my room (october 2012) . After 2 or 3 days i started getting terrible bites on my arms. I told my dad to inspect it and he found 2 thin red insects and killed it. So nothing else for the next 2 months. One day , i decided to sleep in my couch but when i woke up , i had lots of bites on my hip and thighs. I got suspicious and when i lifted the cushion , i saw a thin reddish brown insect crawling. I caught it with tape and flushed it. These bites have been continuing till now and they're in my bed , my parents bed , even in all of my couches ! I would've got bitten like a million times till now (8 bites today) and i just caught 2 big bedbugs. I can't bear these little bastards. Is there any way to treat bedbug bites ? Money is kinda tight right now and i cant call the exterminator now. I also caught about 17 bugs in my bed's headboard when i vacummed it last week. Nowadays i sleep with the light on and that has helped a bit. Help please :/

Answer
You are really infested. Your father is a fool. He "saved" a little on a used mattress. Technically it is illegal to sell used bedding, the health department frowns on it for good reason.
Now this genius better be prepared to fork out $4,000-6,000 to have your home properly treated. You can spray poison all over your house, you can even pay someone to do it for you, problem is most bedbugs have mutated into pesticide resistant, so it is pointless to poison yourself.
You need the house heated to 145 for about 3-4 hours. This is the only sure fire way to kill 100% of them.
Money is tight. That happens. Killing these bugs has to be a priority. That means no more booze, beer, cigarettes, makeup and all the other stupid crap people waste money on when money is tight. This is not a lecture on how you should live, I don't care if you chose to live in squalor. I have been rammen noodle, bicycle to work because I will not pay $1 to ride the bus on a sunny day poor. No car poor. No TV poor. No phone poor. No AC poor. Wash your clothes in the tub and hang them to dry poor.
Been there, done that. Now I own a business that makes me close to a 6 digit income. I'm NEVER going back. My workers are poor or nearly poor, but not one lives in squalor.

You need some relief. You need a bagged vacuum. You need a Eureka Mighty Mite. It is $65-80 depending on where you get it. You need to vacuum up these bugs from every inch of your home. Everything. Everywhere. Even the electric outlets.

That's a LOT of work. I know that. I have people who money isn't so tight pay me and my staff to clean their homes. We use a better vacuum than the Mighty Mite, but then again, it is over $300. Two people will work hard and fast, probably 4-6 hours to clean every inch of a home. Sometimes I do it. I will be soaked in sweat. It is a lot of hard work. At the end, you take the bag to the outside trash so you don't reinfest your home.

Money is tight. That means you have plenty of time on your hands. Don't say you don't. If you work, money can't be that tight. If you don't have a job, you have a lot of time. If you don't have either, you are a lazy liar.

Get the right vacuum and vacuum every day or two. You can get rid of them that way too. You have to be willing to put in the effort.
